Founded in December 2009, AIRLINK was formed to facilitate a broad partnership between commercial aviation and the nonprofit community. Its ongoing purpose is to utilize commercial aviation capacity on scheduled air carriers to support NGOs in their humanitarian relief efforts – all at relatively low cost to the airlines and nonprofits. Airlink and its  members have responded to humanitarian emergencies throughout the world and most recently in West Africa in response to the Ebola outbreak.
